Too Busy to Buy?
Home Too Busy to Buy? Save Big in Taxes No Down Payment? Renter to Owner

When you work at a high tech company, you can pay more attention to your pager, cell phone and Internet connection than to your home. When you work the long hours I do with a growing company, it is easy to put the house on the back burner and just continue to pay rent.

I am Joel Freeman, and this is my wife, Heather. I work at Systech, and Heather works at American General Finance Company. We used to live at the Six Forks Station apartments in North Raleigh. It’s a great place to live, but it took a great deal out of my paycheck to pay my income taxes.  It also doesn't hold a candle to our new home shown in the picture below.

We met the Team for YOUR Dreams from the Internet, but we did not know how to go about getting a house.  We had only been married a matter of months, and this would be our first house. We were going around to open houses when we stumbled on the perfect home.

I knew enough to get help. Tim Burrell is a twenty-year veteran of buying and selling houses. This purchase was only my first one. I wanted him in my corner. He jokes about needing to be forgiven for his past life as a trial lawyer, but I like having that extra protection.

The Team for YOUR Dreams looked up all the other similar houses to show us what the values were. Then, they found out why the people were selling the house.  Tim says that knowledge is power and used it to his advantage while negotiating a great price.  They even threw in the washer, dryer, and refrigerator. Tim found us excellent financing that was tailored to young people who are just starting out.

There were some problems with the house, but we found out about them using the Team’s inspectors. Kathy McShane, the Team’s closing specialist, has lists of the best professionals to help us finish getting the house. Most of the problems were fixed by the sellers, but when we had the walk through, there were several items that were not done properly.  Instead of having to delay the closing, fight with the sellers, extend our lease and all that hassle, Tim took some tools out of his trunk and did the repairs himself. I thought it was strange that a Mercedes had so many construction tools. But, Tim told Heather that he had a journeyman carpenter’s union card when he was only 9 (his family had been in construction for generations), so he felt better having his tools on hand. Since he had built hundreds of houses, it was easy for him to do some minor repair while Heather watched.

Kathy McShane of the Team for YOUR Dreams took care of the hundreds of things that you have to do to close on a house, so that Heather and I could concentrate on doing our jobs and packing. Now, we live in this great house, pay less in income taxes, and have a big fenced yard for our dog, Cisco. So, tell your landlord you are not going to be helping his financial future, you are going to be creating yours. If you want, send me an e-mail at  uncjump@networkz.net, and I will be glad to tell you about our experience. Better yet, just click here tim@timburrell.com to send the Team an e-mail saying you want to stop paying rent. Or, you can call Tim at 919-645-2117. It will make you, your wife, and even your dog happy.
